  • Surrogate Parents

We need your help! The St. James R-I School District and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education are looking for volunteers to serve as surrogate parents to students at the Great Circle, St. James Campus.

A surrogate parent is a volunteer who is trained by the state and then assigned to a specific student with disabilities. The volunteer surrogate parent is trained as to have the ability to make educational decisions for the child. The duties of a surrogate parent include attending meetings with school personnel about the child’s programs, reviewing the child’s education records, and making sure the child is receiving an appropriate education.

We are in desperate need of more volunteers to serve as surrogate parents. If you are interested in volunteering to serve in this capacity, please call, Sandy Kliethermes, Program Supervisor, Compliance, Division of Special Education, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, at 573-751-3520 or Cathy Wells, Assistant Superintendant, St. James R-I School District at 573-265-2300.
