The end of the school year is finally upon us. I would like to congratulate our 134 resilient seniors who officially became St. James alumni last Friday evening. The Class of 2021 has endured multiple challenges their junior and senior years. They lost out on most of the end of the year events last year and had to live with scheduling cancellations and modifications throughout their entire senior year. Not to mention, the many construction related obstacles along the way. These past 15 months have been an extremely challenging stretch for all of us, but it has also been a great adventure and exhibition of resilience, determination, and grit. When we started this school year, we focused on “we can do this together” and now I hope that you know that “we did it together”. I’m proud to say we all finished this adventure as valiantly as we started it!
This upcoming weekend is Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is one of the greatest American holidays; a day in which we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It’s also a three-day weekend that officially kicks off the summer season, traditionally including parades, family barbeques, and other social gatherings. As we slowly return to a normal way of life, I hope everyone is able to celebrate Memorial Day in a special way by remembering and honoring generations who gave their lives for our nation’s freedom. I hope you are able to take some time to remember and express your gratitude to all the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. That includes our own family members, friends, and ancestors who served our nation. Whether it be Memorial Day weekend or any weekend, I encourage our community to support our local businesses. This past year has been very difficult for many of our local businesses. Your local purchases can do much to help revitalize our community. These businesses are often the first and most generous supporters of many of our St. James R-I School District programs. St. James is a special place to live, work and play… and I’m excited to see the great things our graduating seniors will do with their lives! I wish all of them the very best! Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger!!!
