What's Happening at the Middle School

  • Flu Season:  When should I get vaccinated?  It’s not too late!

You should get a flu vaccine before flu begins spreading in your community. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins. CDC recommends that people get a flu vaccine by the end of October. Getting vaccinated later, however, can still be beneficial and vaccination should continue to be offered throughout flu season, even into January or later.    https://health.mo.gov/living/healthcondiseases/communicable/influenza/ to find a vaccine clinic in your area

Welcome to the St. James Middle School

  • My goodness, the summer has flown by so quickly.  We are already starting our 2018 - 2019 school year.  Last year was a great year for us. Our school was awarded the status of “Sustaining Exemplary School” for our work in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) and our school was recognized as a Capturing Kids Hearts Showcase School for the second year in a row.  Capturing Kids Hearts is the essence of our Middle School culture. Our teachers strive to create caring relationships with each and every student.

This year we will have a few new faces on our teaching staff.  Mrs. Stacy Blakley is coming to us from Waynesville. She will be teaching 6th-grade Communication Arts.  Ms. Elizabeth Ferguson, fresh out of college and ready to take on her first teaching job, will be teaching band.  From the elementary, we welcome Sara Watson teaching 7th-grade History, Crystal Brown teaching 7th grade Math and Coding, and Felicia Berry who is one of our secretaries.  From the High School, we welcome Cole Thompson. Cole will be teaching in our Special Education department. Also, in January last year, we were fortunate to add Andrew Boggs to our teaching staff.  He will be teaching Careers and 6th grade Math this year.

Something really exciting for us at the Middle School this year is that we will be adding Middle School Football to our lineup of athletics.  I know I am really looking forward to watching our students play football. They have already begun practices and the first home game will be against Pacific on Sept. 20th at 5:00.

The Middle School offers many activities for students to be involved in.  We have school-sponsored sports in 7th and 8th grade. We have great Art, Vocal Music, and Band departments.  We also have a variety of clubs for students to join. Please encourage your child to get involved.

The Middle School encourages parent and community involvement.  Please come by and see the many wonderful things going on here. You are welcome to join us for ball games, assemblies, or just come by for a visit.

We are looking forward to having another great year.
