Mr. Joe Stammers

Joe Stammers was raised in St. James, Missouri where he attended grades 1-12 graduating in 1980. While a student at St. James, Joe participated in many student organizations including STUCO, Drama, Key Club, Chamber Choir and played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. During this time he also joined the Army Reserves as a Military Policeman.  He returned to St. James in 1988 when he was offered a teaching job/coaching position at Boys and Girls Town of Missouri teaching Physical Education and coaching basketball and wrestling.  In 1993 Joe went to Cuba High School for 1 year helping to develop a program for At-Risk students and coached basketball and track.  The 1994-95 school year took Joe to Owensville High School where he was hired as an English teacher and also to coach football, basketball and track.  Joe was in this role for 13 years.  In 2006 Joe became the Assistant High School Principal and remained in the position until 2014 when he became the High School Principal.  Joe had the opportunity to “come home” in 2015 as the High School Principal at St. James.  In the 2016-17 school year, Joe was named the South Central Association High School Principal of the Year.   


Joe is married to his high school sweetheart, Diane, and they have been married for 34 years.  Diane teaches 6th grade at the St. James Middle School.  They have 2 children, Wes and Stephanie who are both in education as well.  Wes teaches high school Physical Education and coaches in Arkansas City, Kansas and is married with a 1-year-old son, and one more due in February 2018.  Stephanie teaches 1st grade in the St. James School district and just completed her 5th year with the school district.
