Mr. Dan Copeland
Dan Copeland attended grades K-12 in St. James graduating in 1990. As a student, Dan participated in FFA, National Honor Society, and enjoyed working on classic cars. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Insurance and Risk Management. Before graduation, Dan began working as an underwriter for American National Companies in Springfield continuing this position until 1997. At that time, Dan returned to St. James as his spouse was hired to teach kindergarten at Lucy Wortham James Elementary in St. James. He opened an insurance and investment business with American National Companies maintaining ownership while developing a client base from 1997-2007. During this time, Dan often served as interim youth minister at St. James Christian Church as well as transferred operation of his agency from 2003-2004 to serve as the full-time Associate and Youth Minister. In 2007, he accepted a position to teach business at Newburg Public Schools. Dan served in this role for 8 years during which he attended Missouri Baptist University to earn a teaching certificate and a Masters in Educational Administration. He was offered an opportunity to return to St. James in 2015 as the assistant principal in the Middle and High Schools. Dan became the Elementary principal in 2016.
Dan is married to his high school sweetheart, Tamara, and they have been married for 25 years. Tamara still teaches kindergarten at Lucy Wortham James Elementary. They have one child, Makayla, who is a student at St. James Middle School. Dan and his family attend regularly at St. James Christian Church.
