Essay winners pose with SRO Gray after DARE Graduation.

Fifth-grade students celebrated their graduation from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program today! The ceremony, held at the district auditorium, marked an important milestone in the students' journey towards a safer and healthier future.

Over the past several weeks, these students have been immersed in a comprehensive curriculum that delved into the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Led by School Resource Officer (SRO) Tony Gray,  and supported by their classroom teachers, they learned about responsible choices and the consequences that can accompany substance abuse. The DARE program aims to empower students to resist peer pressure and make informed decisions throughout their lives.

The program goes beyond drug education, encompassing a range of essential life skills. Students learned effective strategies for navigating difficult situations, including conflict resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving techniques. Moreover, they were taught the importance of active listening and effective communication skills, enabling them to engage in meaningful conversations and build stronger relationships with their peers and adults.

An integral component of the DARE program was the focus on combating bullying. Students were encouraged to be upstanders, actively opposing bullying behavior rather than being bystanders. Through thought-provoking discussions and interactive activities, the students learned the significance of empathy, kindness, and inclusivity. Equipped with these tools, they are prepared to create a safe and supportive school environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

During the graduation ceremony, each student was recognized on stage for their completion of the program. The top three essays from each English Language Arts (ELA) class were also given recognition on stage. The top essay writers from each class had the honor of reading their essays aloud to the audience.

The success of the DARE program and the graduation ceremony would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our educators and SRO Gray. Congratulations to all the fifth-grade students who completed the DARE program. As these students step forward into a future filled with possibilities, we’re confident that their newfound knowledge and skills will enable them to navigate life's challenges with resilience and integrity.
