Students across the St. James R-1 School District joined in on a fun and healthy celebration during the Missouri Apple Crunch Off, an annual event promoting local agriculture and healthy eating.
This year’s apples were sourced from two Missouri orchards: Peters Orchards in Waverly and Schweizer Orchards in Amazonia! It gave students a chance to enjoy fresh, homegrown produce right from our state. Throughout the day, students participated in apple-themed activities, learned about where their food comes from, and even helped form giant apple shapes for a drone photo at their buildings.

The event was part of National Farm to School Month, which connects students with local farmers and helps them understand the importance of supporting Missouri agriculture. It was a perfect way to combine nutrition, learning, and community pride.
