Teacher of the Year - Jacob Fricke

The St. James R-1 School District has named Jacob Fricke, Kindergarten Special Education Teacher at Lucy Wortham James Elementary, as the 2025-26 Teacher of the Year.

In his first year with the district, Fricke has made an immediate and lasting impact through both his classroom work and the creation of Lucy’s Stripes and Sweets, a student-led program centered on service, responsibility, and real-world learning. Each week, LWJE staff place orders, and students take the lead in organizing, preparing, and delivering them throughout the building.

The program has grown into more than just a weekly routine. It has become a meaningful way for students to build confidence, develop independence, and strengthen connections with staff and peers. By taking ownership of the process from start to finish, students gain hands-on experience in communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and accountability.

“Jacob Fricke brings a level of care, creativity, and intentionality that makes a lasting impact on our youngest learners,” said Superintendent Tim Webster. “In his first year, he created something special with Lucy’s Stripes and Sweets, giving students real opportunities to connect, contribute, and feel a true sense of belonging. That kind of impact goes far beyond the classroom.”

Fricke’s work reflects the district’s commitment to creating opportunities where students learn by doing and grow through meaningful experiences. His ability to turn a simple idea into something that positively impacts an entire building highlights the power of strong relationships and innovative thinking in education.

“Teaching, to me, means creating a place where every child feels seen, valued, and excited to learn,” Fricke said. “When students enjoy school, they believe in themselves.”

The St. James R-1 School District is proud to recognize Jacob Fricke for his dedication, creativity, and commitment to students.
