St. James R-1 School District teaches our students to be lifelong learners and a way we accomplish this is leading by example. Continuous learning opportunities for our educators is a priority for the District and we fully support their education goals.

Earlier this month, Mrs. Melissa Keeney and Mrs. Tracy Janes-Miller attended the Teaching, Learning, Coaching Conference - San Antonio. The conference was paid for by Dr. Jim Knight after Mrs. Keeney participated in a writing focus group research project sponsored by the American Institutes for Research. The project was a year-long endeavor in which Dr. Knight, nine other instructional coaches, and Mrs. Keeney participated.

At the conference, our educators heard notable speakers including Dr. Jim Knight, Marcia Tate, Adam Grant, and Christian van Nieuwerburgh. They learned about “high-impact teaching strategies, proven instructional coaching practices, and system-change strategies designed to lead to high performance schools.”

When asked about the conference, Mrs. Keeney said she "appreciated the opportunity to attend the conference and it was an awesome experience. Through my learning experience, I will be able to partner with teachers to move student learning forward."
