News & Updates: AMI Procedures

St. James R-1 School District is sharing a reminder about how Alternative Methods of Instruction, or AMI, will be used when weather conditions make it unsafe to hold school on site.

Missouri districts may use up to 36 hours of AMI each year. This option allows students to continue learning at home through classroom communication tools and learning packets.

The use of an AMI day will be determined on a case-by-case basis in St. James R-1. Families will receive notice through our mass communication system (email/text/call) at the same time a weather closure is announced.

Most families received AMI packets during Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences, and teachers provided packets to students who were not able to attend. Families who still need an AMI packet can contact their child’s school building for support.

What to Expect on an AMI Day

  • Families will be notified of a closure and activation of an AMI day through our mass communication system. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date and accurate in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

  • Each school building will provide assignment expectations and support.

  • Attendance will be based on assignment completion.

We encourage families to reach out to their child’s school with any questions about AMI procedures or technology needs as we prepare for the winter season.
