St. James Middle School

Our cross country team ran a tough meet today in Hermann. This course is brutal. Tara finished 3rd in the girls race 🥉 Only a few meets left for the season!

Every year, St. James partners with Owensville to host day time events so all students have the opportunity to be a part of a ball game. The girls game was hosted by Owensville this year, and they both earned wins! It was a nail biter for sure! Our cheerleaders brought the spirit, too!

🏆CHAMPIONS🏆 🏀7th Grade Lady Tigers - St. Clair Tournament Champions (47-10 over Sullivan) 🏀8th Grade Lady Tigers - Washington Tournament Champions (42-18 over Pacific) It was a great night for basketball!

Congratulations to Dennis, Adalyn, and Alice, our Students of the Month for September! These students were chosen by their teachers collectively for the character trait "Positivity" and were presented with a plaque and a $20 gift card. Next month's character trait is Creativity!

Making Connections! Mrs. Hicks' 6th grade students worked on a get-to-know-you activity the first few weeks of school. Last week, they took those pieces and connect the entire grade together by interests! What a great way to show that, while we are all different, we still share interests and goals in life that we can work on together!

That's a winner! The Middle School Tiger Football team defeats Hermann in double overtime 28-22!

This week in Careers class, students are working on learning the job skills needed in our world today. Students practiced their Interpersonal skills with a game that encouraged them to work together respectfully to solve a challenge! We are working hard to prepare our students to meet the high standards of our Portrait of a Graduate, including being "Future Focused."

Our football team traveled to Pacific this evening to face the Indians. They came up short 30-18, but they fought until the end!

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️We have a few medalists from our first meet in Vienna this evening. 8th grader Tara Murphy wins the girls' meet 🏆 and 7th grader Cason Smith finishes 19th 🏅 for the boys! All of our runners did a great job, and we are proud of their grit!

And our runners are on their way to their first meet of the year! Wish them luck!

Our 7th graders got to experience microscopes in science class today. Ms. McClure set the foundation for proper usage and allowed students to study the properties of different objects, like torn paper, hair follicles, and fingerprints. Students asked questions, observed at different magnifications, and recorded their findings. Keeping students curious helps them think critically, which is exactly what great scientists need to be able to do!

Students in Mrs. Mulhall's Exploring Agriculture class are conducting research to find out how biotechnology and agriculture are connected. They're finding that biotechnology in agriculture uses scientific techniques like genetic engineering and tissue culture to improve crops and livestock, leading to enhanced traits such as disease resistance, increased yields, and improved nutritional content. We are keeping our content focused on real-world application, and our students are taking what they learn and preparing for their future.
Maybe we have a few future biotechs in this room?

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟
We just handed out our very first round of Positive Office Referrals at the middle school! 🎉👏 These students have been recognized for showing kindness, respect, responsibility, and going above and beyond. 💯✨

Thank you to this group of middle school students who spent 3 hours today doing some real manual labor to get our entryway in tip-top shape for back to school! We painted the benches, powerwashed, and did a lot of weeding. What a great example of engaged citizenship!

Another fantastic concert! Mr. Payne and Mrs. Boeringa have done a fantastic job preparing our beginning, intermediate, and advanced bands for this performance. Kids, you put on a great show tonight! Great job, Tigers! 🎵🎺🎷📯🥁

Our Middle School Honor Society ceremony will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30th in our commons area. Students who were given invitations should arrive 10 minutes early to line up and be ready for the event. See you then!
