Through thoughtful analysis, they strengthened their critical thinking and media literacy—learning to question sources, recognize persuasive techniques, and connect historical strategies to modern-day messaging. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Learning Highlight: From the Classroom to the Capitol! 🏛️📚🌟
Last week, 3rd-grade students hit the road for an unforgettable trip to the Missouri State Capitol! The group toured the Capitol building, walked the Bicentennial Bridge, and discovered Adrian’s Island—all while connecting what they’ve been learning in the classroom to real-life history.
As part of their unit on Famous Missourians, students are studying influential people who helped shape our state. This visit brought those lessons to life, and students saw the history they've been reading about up close. Thank you to Representative Tara J. Peters for providing lunch, families for joining us, and our incredible teachers for making it all happen!
GREAT things happen here—especially when families and learning come together! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Mission Monday: Growing Our Own! 🌱🐯❤️
Last week, interested students and district paraprofessionals were invited to take part in our Future Teachers of America (FTA) & Grow Your Own Day, a special event designed to inspire the next generation of educators.
Participants explored the teaching profession through hands-on workshops, a vision board session, and a Teacher Q&A Panel featuring current and retired educators. The day also included networking with college representatives and a celebratory College Signing Ceremony to honor students taking their next step toward teaching.
This event was made possible through the Grow Your Own grant, and we’re grateful to Sponsor Ms. Katie Shultz, along with our district staff, presenters, and community partners who helped bring it to life.
When students are surrounded by support and opportunity, they begin to see what’s possible—and that’s when GREAT things happen. #MissionMonday #stjschools #tigerpride

Middle school students in Mrs. Watson's history class recently took part in an exciting team-building activity focused on material culture, exploring how clothing reflects different societies. Teams selected from seven historical eras and used newspaper to design and create outfits inspired by those times! This hands-on learning experience sparked creativity while deepening their understanding of history. Check out a few of the pieces! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Learning Highlight: Expect the Unexpected in 5th Grade Science! 🔎🐯🔬
5th-grade scientists explored chemical reactions in a hands-on experiment using hydrogen peroxide and yeast. First, they measured the starting temperature of the hydrogen peroxide. Then, they added yeast, stirred the mixture, and measured the temperature again to see what had changed. Students made predictions, observed reactions, and repeated the process three times to compare results.
A GREAT way to bring science to life! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigepride

Learning Highlight: Cracking the Berlin Wall Escape! ❤️🐯🤍
Students at St. James R-1 High School recently took on the role of codebreakers in American History class. Working together in teams, students solved a series of clues related to the construction of the Berlin Wall and the daring escape attempts that followed. Each clue brought them one step closer to "escaping" the classroom scenario, reinforcing their understanding of this key moment in global history.
Hands-on, collaborative learning like this helps bring the past to life—proving once again that GREAT things happen here. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride
