Celebrating Milestones: Kindergarten Graduation! Tonight was a joy-filled evening as we welcomed the newest class of Tigers, while also preparing to bid farewell to our graduating seniors who will receive their diplomas tomorrow. It's an incredible full-circle moment. The Class of 2035 has officially arrived! Our little graduates dazzled the crowd with their heartfelt songs, accompanied by the cheerful sounds of their homemade tambourines crafted during art class. Each teacher proudly presented their students, revealing their dreams and aspirations for the future. Tiger Highlight! Third-grade students at Lucy Wortham James Elementary had a blast at their MAP Carnival! They earned points during MAP testing and redeemed them at the carnival, enjoying snacks, games, and even a photo booth. The MAP Carnival was held on the fourth-grade playground so students could get a sneak peek for next year! Field Day Fun at Lucy Wortham James Elementary School! You know we’re nearing the end of the school year when it’s time for LWJE’s Annual Field Day! Our dedicated teachers organized a day filled with fun activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. From long jump to soccer, foot races to water relays, our students had a blast! The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. To top it all off, they enjoyed popsicles to beat the heat. Learning Highlight: Mentos vs. Soda! Earlier this week, Mrs. Owen's students gathered outside to witness the explosive power of science! The experiment was all about finding out which type of soda would shoot higher when Mentos were added. With curious minds and safety goggles in place, the students conducted their experiment. Mrs. Owen carefully dropped Mentos into various bottles of soda, waiting for the grand eruptions to occur. And what a show it was! Soda fountains soared into the air, reaching impressive heights. Learning Highlight! During the 22-23 school year, fourth and fifth-grade students at Lucy Wortham James Elementary School embarked on a friendly "book race" to see which grade could read the most books, and we're proud to share that they collectively read a whopping 3,300 books! A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated educators who created this fun challenge. Their passion for teaching and innovative ideas transforms learning into an exciting adventure for our students. This event will take place at the St. James Tigers Football Field, weather permitting. Please mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate the incredible achievements of our graduates. In the event of inclement weather, we have a backup plan in place. The location will be moved to the St. James Middle School, ensuring the ceremony goes on rain or shine! Learning Highlight! Mrs. Meurer’s third-grade students dove into the captivating world of force and motion in their final STEMscopes Science Unit! Their mission: Explore how the height of a ramp affects the distance traveled by a toy car. With curiosity and teamwork, our young scientists conducted three attempts, measuring both ramp height and car distance. Tiger Highlight! Today, St. James FFA students showcased their dedication to their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) while educating younger peers about their projects during the annual FFA Petting Zoo! At the Petting Zoo, students interacted with animals, from pigs to cows and more! It was also Drive Your Tractor to School Day and our younger Tigers loved getting to check out the tractors up close. Learning Highlight! Tiger Cubs students witnessed the incredible caterpillar-to-butterfly transformation! For part of their unit on life cycles, Mrs. Cindy Arthur’s class observed growth, chrysalis formation, and eagerly waited for the magic. After a suspenseful ten days, a chrysalis cracked open, revealing a stunning butterfly! Students nurtured the butterflies with sugar water and oranges. With mixed emotions, they bid farewell and released them, knowing they were off to explore nature's wonders. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

#MissionMakers were in action last night for Youth Night at the baseball home game! The 11U Tigers and the 10U Bullets had the honor of throwing the honorary first pitches and were recognized on the field after the varsity game. We believe in empowering our students through caring relationships and seeing our younger students receive mentorship and support from their older counterparts is a mission success. When older students take the time to guide their younger peers, it creates a positive ripple effect that extends far beyond the baseball field. Tiger Highlight! Second-grade Parent Night was held last week at Lucy Wortham James Elementary! Parents were able to come see the progress our students have made learning about graphing and measurement. Title 1 Parent Nights allow our educators to showcase student learning as well as provide insights into the curriculum, promote parent-teacher connection, and give strategies for supporting their child’s learning journey. Strong relationships between teachers and parents greatly contribute to the academic success of our students. Learning Highlight! Mrs. Kleinheider's third-grade class, along with LWJE librarian Mrs. Hunter, were special guests at the high school library last week. They were welcomed by Mrs. Harlan and several of her library aide students. Together, the students did a Get-to-Know-You activity first, and then enjoyed a time of small groups where the third-graders read to the high schoolers. They also shared about their books and why they chose what they are reading. This experience is a great example of the power of mentorship and how it can develop caring relationships between younger and older students, leading to increased academic success. It was an awesome time of sharing a love for reading, spanning several grade levels, and a perfect way to wrap up April as School Library Month! #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride
