From Assignment to Opportunity in High School Business Class! ❤️🐯🤍
Elisa Bierman, a student in Mrs. Lorts’ Business class, put her skills to the test by writing a business letter to her favorite company. For their assignment, students explained why they admired a company and could request a response or promotional item. The project taught block-style letter writing, professional tone, and proper envelope addressing. Elisa’s thoughtful letter caught the attention of Dale Stitt with Anest Iwata, and they were so impressed that they put together a special care package for her.
The care package, including top-of-the-line spray guns, was hand-delivered today by Ed Sederburg, a recent hire who also taught at Rolla Technical Institute, where Elisa was once his student. Dr. Lucas Chapman, Director of RTI, also attended the surprise presentation. Anest Iwata shared how much they appreciated Elisa’s professionalism and credited Mrs. Lorts for helping students develop these real-world skills.
Way to go, Elisa! #communitypartnerships #stjschools #tigerpride

Mrs. Waldmann’s ASL Club brought holiday cheer to LWJE! Students across every grade level enjoyed Christmas carols performed in American Sign Language. What a fun way to celebrate and share the joy of the season! #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride

DECA and FBLA students from St. James High School visited Careers classes at St. James Middle School to support interview skill practice! Having competed in interview-based events themselves, these students brought firsthand experience and practical insight.
By stepping into the interviewer role, high school students strengthened their own communication skills while helping middle schoolers build confidence! #MissionMakers #stjschools #tigerpride

Holiday cheer was in full swing as Mrs. Amanda's Tiger Cubs got crafty alongside family members to create gingerbread houses! From icing details to candy decorations, it was a fun-filled time of creativity and joy. Moments like these make the season extra special! #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride

The ROX group at Lucy Wortham James Elementary wrapped up a powerful self-defense unit, giving students a chance to practice real-world skills that build confidence, awareness, and independence. The lesson was hands-on and encouraged students to trust their instincts and support one another, which is at the heart of what ROX is all about.
Thank you to our group leaders who make this space empowering and meaningful for our students!

Critical Thinking: Exploring the Human Body with Phelps Health! 🫁🐯💡
3rd-grade students got a hands-on look at the human body! Phelps Health brought their inflatable colon and lungs for students to explore after finishing their ELA Unit on Human Body Systems. Seeing science up close helps our students practice critical thinking and make real-world connections! #CriticalThinking #HandsOnLearning #stjschools

ALL-STATE HONORS: Red Regiment Tigers Shine! 🎵🐯❤️
St. James students traveled to Columbia for All-State Band, Orchestra, and Jazz auditions last weekend! Out of more than 1,100 eligible musicians statewide, 3 of our 4 Tigers earned callbacks or honorable mentions:
⭐️Cat Murphy earned a flute callback, placing her in the top 45 high school flute players in Missouri.
⭐️Sydney Harris earned a flute callback and 2nd chair Honorable Mention, ranking her 17th statewide.
⭐️Keiran Goodridge earned 6th chair Honorable Mention in general percussion, placing him 21st in the state.
Only 31 of the 341 honorees came from class 3A or smaller schools. St. James was one of just 6 schools in that group with multiple students recognized. Please help us congratulate our Tigers! #ArtsinEducation #stjschools #tigerpride

St. James Senior Beta Club students, guided by Sponsor Mrs. Berkelman, visited Tiger Cubs to help them write letters to Santa! This special visit showed kindness, respect, and thoughtfulness, bringing Social Integrity to life in our school community. #PortraitofaGraduate #stjschools #tigerpride

Sixth graders are one step closer to their Science Center field trip thanks to the generosity of IHOP of Rolla! Their $500 contribution will help cover travel costs and make this hands-on learning experience possible.

Lucy’s Stripes and Sweets is all about students learning by doing and spreading a little happiness along the way. LWJE staff place their sweet orders at the start of the week and on Friday students deliver them.
Under the guidance of Mr. Fricke, students manage orders, handle money, and make deliveries! This program touches all five core values of our Portrait of a Graduate: Effective Communication through taking and delivering orders, Engaged Citizenship by serving the school community, Critical Thinking in managing logistics, Future Focused by practicing leadership and accountability, and Social Integrity through kindness.
It's proof that real learning happens when students get hands-on, take responsibility, and make someone’s day a little sweeter! #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride

Mrs. Schisler and Mrs. Ortega’s fifth graders wrapped up their classroom economy by putting their savings to use during a class auction! Students earned paychecks for their jobs, paid rent, and learned how to manage their “money” throughout the project. When auction day arrived, they used those earnings to choose small prizes or spend meaningful time with a teacher or staff member, including reading to a younger class or playing a game.
It was a hands-on way to practice Engaged Citizenship by giving students real choices and opportunities to contribute to their school community! #PortraitofaGraduate #stjschools #tigerpride
