Mrs. Mulhall’s agriculture students explored food scarcity worldwide and the factors that contribute to it. Using real-world data, they analyzed regions with the highest levels of food insecurity and compared them to identify shared challenges and causes.
This work highlighted Engaged Citizenship, as students examined a global issue, considered its impact on communities, and shared their learning through collaborative research posters. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Taryn Souders, award-winning author of picture books and mysteries for kids, visited Lucy Wortham James Elementary and St. James Middle School today to meet with our students! Many recognized her work from titles like The Mystery of the Radcliffe Riddle and Coop Knows the Scoop, both of which have appeared on the Missouri Mark Twain Readers Award lists and are favorites among our own readers. She shared her writing process, how she researches for her books, and what it really looks like to turn an idea into a finished story.
It was a great opportunity for students to see how curiosity, creativity, and persistence come together in the writing process. Thank you to our library staff for making this author visit possible and for continuing to support a love of reading for our students!

Learning about hibernation was a big hit in Mrs. Karnes’ class! Students explored why animals hibernate and which animals do it. They also played a bear matching game that built early science skills, encouraged partner work, and practiced fine motor skills. Learning continued at home with a family activity sent from the classroom! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Learning goes beyond the classroom! Through clubs, students explore interests, build confidence, and connect with others who share their passions. We are grateful for the sponsors who help make these experiences possible for our students! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Together for Our Tigers: Hartley’s Climate Control Supports LWJE! ❤️🐯🤍
A huge thank you to Hartley's Climate Control for their generous donation of four American Standard rooftop HVAC units to Lucy Wortham James Elementary valued at over $30,000! It’s through partnerships like these that we show our Tigers the power of community. Every student benefits when we work together! #CommunityPartnerships #stjschools #tigerpride

Last week, Tigers joined the Four Rivers Conference Band for a day of incredible music. The group started with a performance in Owensville and wrapped up in Sullivan!
This experience highlights our Portrait of a Graduate focus on Engaged Citizenship. Our students earned the right to step into a larger community, contributed their talents, listened and collaborated with others, and helped make the performance a success.
Great job to our Tigers and the directors who guided them! #ArtsInEducation #stjschools #tigerpride

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose words and actions continue to remind us that progress is built through courage, compassion, and unity. His vision challenges each of us to think critically, act with integrity, and care for one another.
At St. James R-1, we carry these lessons forward by building caring relationships and creating a learning environment where every student is supported, valued, and encouraged to grow.

After a long wait, Mr. Wisdom’s first-semester Stagecraft class finally took the stage and delivered their postponed production for St. James Middle School!
Christmas Chaos was written, directed, designed, and performed entirely by students. From set and costumes to acting and storytelling, this was truly a full-class production.
Well done to this talented group of Tigers for seeing it through and bringing their work to life!

Ms. Sutton’s Mythology students met in the high school library with Mrs. Harlan to explore how graphic novels tell a story. As they get ready to read a graphic novel adaptation of The Odyssey, students analyzed a single page to identify key elements and discuss how visuals and text work together, building critical thinking skills tied to our Portrait of a Graduate.

Recently, St. James Middle School recognized students who had perfect attendance during the first semester. Being present each day helps students stay engaged, connected, and ready for what’s ahead!

Members of a local 4-H group collected and donated gloves to Lucy Wortham James Elementary, helping keep Tigers warm when it matters most. This act of Engaged Citizenship shows how caring for others strengthens our community and models the values our students will carry forward. #communitypartnerships #stjschools #tigerpride

Today, members of the St. James R-1 Board of Education traded the boardroom for the classroom. Their day was spent moving from building to building, following the many paths that shape a student’s experience.
Along the way, they listened to students, watched learning unfold, and saw how relationships, instruction, and opportunities connect across our district. A stop at the elementary included Orange Chicken, always a crowd favorite!
Each visit was a reminder that while our schools may look different, they are all moving in the same direction. All Roads Lead Forward for St. James students! Thank you to our Board of Education for being present, engaged, and invested in our schools.

Student Readers Make History at LWJE! ❤️🐯🤍
Ms. Wisdom’s whole class has officially earned a spot on the Reader’s Wall of Fame in the LWJE Library! Every student in the class read at least four of the twelve Mark Twain Nominee books this year, meeting the goal together.
Even more exciting, this is the first time since Mrs. Hunter began the program that an entire class has earned this recognition. To celebrate the achievement, the class enjoyed a reading party together right before break!

Student representatives at St. James High School met with building administration this morning for the Principals Roundtable. These conversations give students a seat at the table as they share immediate needs, short-term priorities, and long-term goals for their building.
From building culture to academics and facilities, student voice helps shape the path forward. This work reflects our Portrait of a Graduate focus on Engaged Citizenship, listening, speaking up, and taking ownership of the community around you! #stjschools #tigerpride

Mission Monday: Stay Gold, Tigers! 🎭🐯🤍
STJ Tiger Drama students had the opportunity to see The Outsiders at The Fabulous Fox in St. Louis over the weekend. Experiencing live theater helps students grow as performers by observing storytelling, staging, and character development in a professional setting.
Thanks to Mrs. Prawitz and Mrs. Stites, part of a Phelps County Bank grant helped cover the cost of the trip, allowing students to learn beyond the classroom and connect their craft to real-world experiences. All of the students who attended are part of the upcoming production of Beetlejuice, Jr., and will bring back what they learned to rehearsals!
🎟️ Beetlejuice, Jr. Show Dates
Thursday, April 9 at 7 PM
Friday, April 10 at 7 PM
Sunday, April 12 at 3 PM
Like The Outsiders reminds us, understanding others, finding where you belong, and staying true to who you are are lessons that matter on and off the stage! #MissionMakers #STJTigerDrama #stjschools

From spirit days to the high school assembly, students and staff brought school spirit and made it a memorable Courtwarming week!
