Fourth-grade students traveled back in time as members of the St. James High School Medieval Club stopped by to share a bit of life from the Middle Ages! From a knighting ceremony to faux battles and Q&A, students got an up-close look at what they’ve been reading about in their current ELA unit. It was a royally good time for our young scholars! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Digital Detectives: Learning to Think Critically Online! 🔍🐯💻
Fifth-grade students explored Digital Citizenship and how their actions online can leave a lasting digital footprint. After reading a story about online safety with Mrs. Hunter, students used critical thinking to analyze fake online profiles and identify red flags like shared locations or personal details.
Learning to think critically about online choices helps our Tigers stay safe and make smart decisions in the digital world. #PortraitofaGraduate #stjschools #tigerpride

Exploring Culture Through Cuisine at St. James Middle School! ❤️🐯🤍
Geography students took a flavorful journey through South America today! Mrs. Watson prepared Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) and Yerba Mate tea for her students as part of their South America unit. Activities like this help students build Engaged Citizenship by learning about and appreciating cultures beyond their own. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Third graders had an exciting visit from the St. James Fire Protection District! Students learned about fire safety and experienced the Smoke Trailer, a simulation that taught them how to safely respond during an emergency. They practiced spotting household hazards, finding safe exits, and escaping through a window.
A huge thank you to the St. James Fire Protection District for providing this valuable hands-on learning experience for our students! Families are encouraged to talk about fire safety at home and create an emergency plan together. #communitypartnerships #stjschools #firesafety

Mrs. Wantland’s Great Books students visited the James Memorial Public Library to explore the resources available to the St. James community. Director Ken Kelly spoke with students about the lifelong importance of reading, no matter what paths they choose in the future. During their visit, students explored the library shelves, learned about local history, and even had the opportunity to see a few books that once belonged to Lucy James. #communitypartnerships #stjschools #tigerpride

First-grade students brought their Human Body unit to life after reading "Give Me Back My Bones" by Kim Norman at the library! They learned the names of the bones in the skeleton and then worked together to assemble a life-sized model. Using diagrams and teamwork, students practiced problem-solving and collaboration while showcasing Critical Thinking, a core value of our Portrait of a Graduate. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Kindergarten spent the morning learning from local heroes! Thanks to the St. James Fire Protection District, St. James Police Department, St. James Ambulance District, City of St. James, Missouri Utilities and Sanitation Departments, and Copeland Bus, students got hands-on experiences exploring emergency vehicles and discovering how city services keep our community running safely.
This experience helps our Tigers grow as engaged citizens, building the skills and understanding they need to make a difference in their community! #CommunityHelpers #stjschools #tigerpride

St. James R-1 High School Chamber Choir recently welcomed Dr. Sexton, choral director at East Central College in Union. He worked with our students on the song they will perform with his top ensemble at the joint concert on October 16th at ECC.
Experiences like this give our students the chance to work alongside professionals, contribute thoughtfully to a shared project, and practice engaged citizenship, a key element of our Portrait of a Graduate.
👉 Don’t forget! You can join us for this weekend’s choir concerts at our Performing Arts Center beginning at 2 PM.

Future Focused: High School Tigers at Art Day! 🎨🐯❤️
A group of St. James High School students recently spent a day at East Central College (ECC) for Art Day! They were able to attend different workshops based on their interests. From learning new techniques to connecting with ECC professors and local artists, it was a chance to stretch their creativity and see what’s possible beyond high school.
What a great example of being Future Focused, one of the core values in our Portrait of a Graduate! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Mrs. Karnes’ kindergarteners celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day with activities that stretched their brains and their taste buds! From apple tastings and homemade applesauce to using pushes and pulls with the core cutter, students put their problem-solving and measuring skills to work.
