Tiger Highlight: Celebrating Lucy Wortham James Elementary's Students of the Month!
LWJE is launching an inspiring initiative where they celebrate important values and character traits! For September, their chosen word was EMPATHY.
Throughout the month, students across all grade levels will participate in engaging classroom challenges that encourage them to embody the “Word of the Month” in their daily lives. Whether it's lending a helping hand, showing kindness, or simply listening with an open heart, we are nurturing these essential skills. At the end of the month, each classroom teacher will select a student who has truly embraced the spirit of the word. These students will be recognized as our "Students of the Month!”

Learning Highlight: One Green Apple, Many Sweet Lessons!
Mrs. Wainwright’s second-grade class had a special visitor last week! Her mother dropped by to teach the kids to whip up some delicious homemade applesauce. The students got hands-on and helped with peeling and grinding apples and also learned about emotions through the focus book of the week, "One Green Apple," by Eve Bunting.
In the story, the main character felt isolated and different when she moved to a new country and couldn't speak the language. During a class trip to the apple orchard, her classmates selected red apples for cider, while she chose a single green apple. It was only after making new friends that she realized the extraordinary taste when the apples blended together. They realized the magic of diversity – just like in their applesauce!

Recently, a group of our Tigers had an amazing day touring Washington University and St. Louis University, exploring their college options. Ms. North, our rockstar College Advisor, is helping bridge the gap between high school and college, making the transition smoother than ever. Some of our youngest Tigers recently had a blast at the library! Mrs. Hunter read an interactive, laugh-out-loud book about paying attention and listening, followed by some hands-on fun making slime. Health class students at St. James R-1 High School embarked on an engaging exploration of communicable diseases. After doing research, they transformed their findings into informative posters, which were displayed gallery-style throughout the hallway. What truly set this project apart was the students' inquisitiveness, as they posed two thoughtful questions about each poster, sparking continued research.
