Congratulations to Cambreigh Chancey, Hallie Kleffner, Piper Sandusky, Emma Meurer, and Berlin Barton!
These five St. James Middle School Junior Beta members attended the Regional Leadership Summit, where they listened to motivational speakers, connected with leaders, and competed in leadership challenges.
The group placed in the Collaboration Connection challenge, focused on communication and teamwork, and the “All the World’s a Stage” competition, where they wrote and performed a Charlotte’s Web-inspired skit, highlighting the four pillars of Beta.
Their outstanding performances earned them a spot to compete at Nationals in Nashville this June! #stjschools #tigerpride

Multiplication Arrays + Playdough = Math Fun! ✖️🐯❤️
Third graders in Mrs. Colvin’s and Mrs. Williams’ classes rolled up their sleeves (and some playdough!) to build multiplication arrays. Hands-on learning like this makes math stick while keeping it fun and creative! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Lucy Wortham James Elementary: Sara Anderson and Doug Williams
St. James Middle School: Katie DuClos and Beth McWhorter
St. James R-1 High School: Luke Overton and Shea McFarland
This year, we’re highlighting how our staff members embody our mission each day, whether building caring relationships, striving for academic excellence, or strengthening community partnerships. Nominated by their peers, leading the Tiger Way shines a spotlight on the teachers and staff who bring these values to life.

Show-Me Careers: Educators in Action! ❤️🐯🤍
Last week, St. James educators took part in Show-Me Careers, exploring careers in our area like health care, construction, advanced manufacturing, and law enforcement.
The experience included tours of Missouri S&T’s brand new Protoplex Advanced Manufacturing Center, Hartmann North America, Walmart DC, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Compass Health Network, and Phelps Health.
Thank you to our community partners for helping connect classroom learning with real-world opportunities! Staff will bring back fresh ideas and stronger connections for students! #stjschools #tigerpride

Future Focused: High School Tigers at Art Day! 🎨🐯❤️
A group of St. James High School students recently spent a day at East Central College (ECC) for Art Day! They were able to attend different workshops based on their interests. From learning new techniques to connecting with ECC professors and local artists, it was a chance to stretch their creativity and see what’s possible beyond high school.
What a great example of being Future Focused, one of the core values in our Portrait of a Graduate! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Mrs. Karnes’ kindergarteners celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day with activities that stretched their brains and their taste buds! From apple tastings and homemade applesauce to using pushes and pulls with the core cutter, students put their problem-solving and measuring skills to work.
Hands-on experiences like these help our Tigers build the foundation for Critical Thinking, one of the core values in our Portrait of a Graduate! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Last week, the district welcomed author Danette Bishop Mondou as a guest speaker at St. James High School. She shared her biography of Meta Given, one of our own. Meta graduated from St. James High School and later returned as a teacher in the early 1900s. She went on to become an American entrepreneur, nutritionist, home economist, photographer, and best-selling cookbook author, showing how one journey can lead to so many paths of impact.
Meta’s story reminds us that at St. James, All Roads Lead Forward, inspiring students and the community to grow, explore, and make a difference! #MissionMonday #communitypartnerships #stjshcools

Juniors and Sophomores went head-to-head in the championship game during today’s Homecoming Assembly. A huge shoutout to the staff and students who brought this tradition back to life and made it such a fun part of the week! #Homecoming2025 #stjschools #tigerpride

Tiger spirit was on full display in all three buildings this week! Students and staff had a blast, and we crowned our Homecoming Spirit King and Queen! #Homecoming2025 #stjschools

The Student of the Month tradition is back at Lucy Wortham James Elementary, and our Tigers are already off to a strong start. Each month, a different character trait takes center stage, and teachers look for students who bring that word to life in their classrooms.
September’s trait was POSITIVE ATTITUDE, and our students showed us just how powerful a smile, determination, and optimism can be. From small acts of encouragement to tackling challenges with a can-do spirit, positivity was shining all across LWJE.
At the end of the month, each teacher chose one student who stood out for embracing this trait. Together, these Tigers represent our September Students of the Month!

St. James High School creative writing students spent time in the library diving into the world of children’s literature! They explored picture books, learned how short-form writing can tell big stories, and are now preparing to create their very own short picture books! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

High school cadets spend time at Lucy Wortham James Elementary each day, joining in wherever they’re needed and helping our youngest learners feel supported and confident. That care and responsibility is a real example of Social Integrity. #PortraitOfAGraduate #stjschools #tigerpride

Community Support Spotlight: Phelps County Bank! ❤️🐯🤍
Thank you to Phelps County Bank for their generous support of our students and the St. James Quarterback Club! PCB has donated 400 concession vouchers, each worth $5, that will be handed out during the Homecoming Football Game. Their partnership helps create memorable experiences for our Tigers and adds even more excitement to Friday night lights!
Don't forget! The Homecoming Parade begins at 6 PM, Coronation at 6:20, and the Game at 7 PM. We'll see you there!

Our Tiger Cubs had a blast at their playground “car wash!" They’re learning through play the Tiger Cubs way!
At preschool, every activity is more than just fun; it’s a chance to build teamwork and imagination. That’s what makes learning hands-on, joyful, and meaningful for our youngest Tigers! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Students across all three of our schools have the opportunity to participate in the Missouri Association of School Librarians reading programs this year!
📕At Lucy Wortham James Elementary School, students are exploring the Mark Twain Reader Award Nominees.
📗At the St. James Middle School, they’re reading the Truman Award Nominees.
📘At the St. James R-1 High School, readers are engaging with the Gateway Award Nominees.
Each building celebrates student success through a Reader’s Wall of Fame, and students earn a spot by reading at least 4 of the 12 books. At the end of the year, they’ll honor all of our amazing readers with a celebration!
Libraries play an important role in this journey. Strong literacy skills help students build confidence, open doors to opportunity, and ensure that all roads truly do lead forward! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Today at Lucy Wortham James Elementary, teachers and administrators participated in Learning Walks! During their plan time, they visited classrooms across grade levels and content areas to observe, learn, and celebrate one another’s teaching practices.
Afterward, they shared reflections and left affirmations on each teacher’s door. Learning is a lifelong adventure, and our teachers are showing the way for students and each other! #stjschools #tigerpride
