Today at Lucy Wortham James Elementary, teachers and administrators participated in Learning Walks! During their plan time, they visited classrooms across grade levels and content areas to observe, learn, and celebrate one another’s teaching practices.
Afterward, they shared reflections and left affirmations on each teacher’s door. Learning is a lifelong adventure, and our teachers are showing the way for students and each other! #stjschools #tigerpride

Students Step Up Through Teens Teach! ❤️🐯🤍
St. James R-1 high school students are taking the lead through the Teens Teach Prevention Training. They’re preparing to deliver peer-to-peer presentations at the middle school on important topics like wellness, vaping, smoking, and alcohol. These student-led sessions will take place in November, February, and March.
This work highlights the Portrait of a Graduate value of Engaged Citizenship as students take the lead in supporting a healthier school community! #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride

St. James choir students had an incredible showing at the Central District auditions over the weekend. Out of 427 students from 16 schools, 27 of our students earned a spot in the Central District Choirs, with 10 in the Concert Choir and 17 in the Honor Choir. Juniors and Seniors in the Honor Choir now have the chance to audition for the Missouri All-State Choir.
Congratulations to our talented students on this achievement! #ArtsInEducation #stjschools #tigerpride

Last Thursday, Teen Leadership students from St. James Middle School served our community during Commodity Distribution at the St. James Caring Center. Experiences like this bring our mission to life, empowering students to grow as engaged citizens and strengthening the caring relationships that make a difference.
Empowering students today means a stronger community tomorrow! #MissionMonday #stjschools #tigerpride

LWJE Student Council is putting Engaged Citizenship into action by leading recycling efforts and helping their school stay organized, including tidying up the Lucy Libraries.
Recycling and caring for shared spaces at school connect directly to the responsibilities we all have in our communities, such as protecting the environment, volunteering, and being active citizens. These experiences remind students that their actions matter now and in the future. #EngagedCitizenship #stjschools #tigerpride

ROX Girls’ Sweet Success: Critical Thinking in Action! 🍫✨🤝
St. James Middle School ROX students put their teamwork skills to the test with an activity called "Chocolate River.” Using only floating "marshmallows," they had to get the entire team across the river without touching the ground. This activity highlights our Portrait of a Graduate core value of Critical Thinking, as students strategized, problem-solved, and worked together to win the challenge. #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Our tech team plays a vital role in the learning process. From supporting innovative teaching and keeping everyone connected to being actively involved with students, they create opportunities for growth every day.

Miss Wisdom and Miss Higgins’ class turned decimals into real-world practice with a "McDonald’s Café Day." Students used their math skills to place orders from a menu before enjoying their treats.
This hands-on experience shows our Portrait of a Graduate core value, Future Focused, by preparing students with the skills they will need to succeed in everyday life and beyond.

Each morning, Jumpstart Tigers brings our mission to life by giving students the chance to begin the day with a boost of confidence. A simple hairstyle from a trusted adult becomes a moment of care, connection, and support.
We’re proud of the positive impact this program has on all LWJE Tigers! To help keep it strong, Jumpstart Tigers is always accepting item donations, which can be dropped off at the elementary office.
When students feel cared for, they walk into the classroom ready to learn, grow, and succeed. That’s the power of relationships in education. #caringrelationships #stjschools #tigerpride

We’re kicking off the 2025–26 school year with our first attendance update, and it’s a strong start! In Missouri, the state looks at the 90/90 rule when measuring regular attendance. This means students need to be present 90% of the time during 90% of the instructional year to stay on track.
Why does this matter? Students who meet the 90/90 rule are more likely to succeed academically, build strong connections at school, and develop the habits that prepare them for life after graduation. Every day in class adds up to a stronger future.
Learn more about attendance and find helpful resources here: https://www.stjschools.org/page/attendance

Medieval Club kicked off its first battle yesterday! Students meet each week to practice traditional combat styles using safe, handcrafted replica weapons inspired by the Renaissance. It is a mix of history, craftsmanship, and plenty of friendly competition.
Through teamwork and strategy, students are sharpening their skills as effective communicators, a key part of our Portrait of a Graduate! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

St. James Middle School Stagecraft students were in the spotlight today! They explored stage quadrants, practiced setting scenes, and jumped into some fun improv. These Tigers are building skills that shine both on and off the stage! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride

Ms. Ortega’s 5th graders are putting their Critical Thinking skills to work by testing what seeds really need to grow. With just a bag, water, air, and sunlight, they’re exploring how plants thrive without soil. It’s hands-on learning that challenges them to ask questions, make observations, and think like scientists.
Our Portrait of a Graduate isn’t just words; it’s alive in lessons like this.

Our Tigers lived out our mission in so many ways during the Grape & Fall Festival last week! From raising animals to taking part in the queen pageant, and from marching in the parade to cheering at the dunk tank for Project Graduation, our students and community showed how learning, relationships, and community come together through this tradition.
